From the recording Looking Back

A song of colonialism. The song is an apology to the indigenous people for all the evils and injustices done to them on our behalf. A wish to turn back time and correct the wrongs, but also realizing that it would, more than likely, turn out the same.

Lyrics

Turn Back Time

I came and walked upon your land, and claimed it for my own
I promised things that never came, I stole your spirit home

I wish that I could fly away, and leave the past behind
I wish that I could turn around, and take us back in time

I came to you in hunger, you opened up your arms
How could you know that what I brought
Could do your family harm

(Repeat “I wish”)

If we could turn back time, and do it all again, turn back time
Turn back and do it all again, turn back time
Would anything change

You were wrong about me from the start, I didn’t want a friend
How could I take it all from you
When you offered me your hand
(Repeat “I wish”)

(repeat (“If we could turn back”)

You said there was enough for all, you didn’t understand
How could someone take it all from you
There was more of us than sand

(Repeat “I wish”)

(Repeat “If we could turn back”)

(Repeat “If we could turn back”)
